FACTS ABOUT SPIRULINA + REVIEW ON PURITAN’S PRIDE SPIRULINA 500mg AND MORE

Hey everyone! I am back with another blog post and this time, its about Spirulina and the numerous health benefits of this so called “superfood”. Hihi. I know this sounds quite odd coming from a beauty blogger but since the trend now focuses on the idea of health and wellness, I think its just right that I post a blog related to it as well. Besides, this can be beneficial to those people suffering from numerous skin deceases and the like. Who knows? This blog just might help you get that perfect skin paired with that super healthy and fit body, right? 🙂

So first of all, what is Spirulina? According to Joanne Marie (n.d.) of healthyeating.sfgate.com, “Spirulina is a type of blue green algae. These tiny, one-celled organisms are actually bacteria, not algae, but because they live in water, contain chlorophyll and are a blue-green color, they were originally classified as algae. Also called cyanobacteria, blue green algae such as spirulina are extremely high in protein nutrients. Besides being nutritious, spirulina may have additional benefits for your health.”

Now that you know what Spirulina is, let’s go to the good part where I mention some of the great health benefits this blue green algae brings us humans. As stated by Cathy Wong, ND (2013)  in her article entitled as,  Spirulina: Health Benefits, Uses, Side Effects & More, “Spirulina contains a number of nutrients, including B-complex vitamins, beta-carotene, and vitamin E. Spirulina is high in protein and also contains antioxidants, minerals, and chlorophyll.”

Cathy Wong, ND (2013) also listed some of the Health Benefits, Uses, Side Effects and Information about Safety purposes with regard to Spirulina which would include:

Health Benefits of Spirulina

  • 1) Allergies

Spirulina holds some promise in the treatment of allergic rhinitis (nasal allergies), according to a research review published in 2009. Indeed, a previously published study of patients with allergic rhinitis found several benefits for spirulina consumption (including improvement in symptoms like nasal discharge, sneezing, congestion, and itching).

  • 2) Diabetes

In a 2008 study involving 37 people with type 2 diabetes, researchers found that those assigned to 12 weeks of spirulina supplementation experienced a significant reduction in blood-fat levels. Spirulina benefits also included a decrease in inflammation and, for some patients, a decrease in blood pressure and cholesterol.

  • 3) Oral Cancer

Spirulina may offer some protection against oral cancer, according to one small study of tobacco chewers with precancerous oral lesions. For 12 months, study members took either a daily dose of spirulina or a placebo. By the study’s end, the lesions cleared up in 20 of the 44 participants who’d consumed spirulina (compared to three of the 43 participants who’d been assigned to the placebo group).

  • 4) Weight Loss

Despite widespread marketing claims that spirulina can suppress appetite, there is insufficient evidence to show that spirulina can boost weight loss.

    Common Uses for Spirulina

Spirulina proponents claim that the benefits of spirulina include treatment and/or prevention of the following health problems:

    • attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
    • cancer
    • fatigue
    • high cholesterol
    • viral infections

Purported spirulina benefits also include weight loss and stimulation of the immune system.

    Side Effects

Although few adverse effects are associated with use of spirulina, consuming spirulina may cause headache, muscle pain, sweating, and insomnia in some cases.

    Safety

As with all supplements, it’s also important to consult your health-care provider before using spirulina in combination with other medications and/or supplements.

Now that you know some of the health benefits this blue green algae brings to us, let’s go ahead and start on the review. If you are following me on Instagram and Twitter, you’d know that my boyfriend, Patrick recently got me a bottle of Spirulina manufactured by Puritan’s Pride.  The product information will be listed below via pictures so you will have a better idea of what this product looks like and  what its claims are.

IMG_0249 IMG_0251 IMG_0252 IMG_0253

So on my first day of taking this product, I have consumed 3 tablets 30 mins prior to taking my first meal. This is because some claim that this suppresses your appetite naturally. So going into the bandwagon, I decided to follow that and take it as is. After 30 mins, inevitably I ate my first meal and I didn’t pretty much feel anything. Why so? Its because I portion control my food intake on a daily basis and I do count my calories as well. Basically, the 30 mins before meals didn’t really pretty much do anything to me. However, after eating, like about 3 hours later, I felt really excited and energetic. It was as if someone had injected some kind of energy boost to my system. Thus, I began to read on the product and there I found out that it also boosts your energy level. I guess that’s a pretty good thing though if you are also into fitness because loads amount of energy really is what you need to keep you going. Moving on, I took again the same 3 tablets 30 mins before my next meal and I felt the same as well. I can’t really claim that it will suppress your appetite because again, I do count my calories. Nonetheless, what I can say is that it really makes you energetic throughout the day. I honestly do not follow the normal dosage of this product which would be 9 tablets a day simply because I want to save on the supplement and consume it on a longer period of time. That is why I cut down on my intake of this product and just took in about 6 tablets daily. Two days after taking in the same product with pretty much the same dosage, I began to feel the need to visit the restroom the moment I wake up and before going to bed. I guess its because it has somehow aided my body in the removal of unwanted toxins. Hence, making my visit to the restroom worthwhile.

So there you have it, that would probably just be my personal view on this blue green algae. I am still trying to see what other changes it may bring to my body in the long run. Yes, that would be basically what this blog will contain because I just really wanted to share my experience on this and well, hear from you guys if you also have had the same experience with this product or with Spirulina per se.

BIG QUESTION: DO I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT?

YES, I do recommend that you take in Spirulina IF AND ONLY IF YOU HAVE CONSULTED YOUR DOCTOR OR LOCAL PHYSICIAN ABOUT IT. I personally do not want to recommend something that does not work or may bring people numerous side effects. Hence, I always research on the product before I write about it. However, if you are experiencing what I have listed above and you think this will be helpful to you, I suggest that you purchase this bottle or the drug itself manufactured by a different company.

Well that is about it, people! I will list below some websites wherein you guys could get additional information about Spirulina. You guys can check it out when you have the time. That’s all for now. Thank you for reading! I hope you found this information very helpful. Hit me up on the comment bar below if you want me to do a review on a certain product and what not! 🙂

UPDATED SKIN CARE ROUTINE + REVIEW ON GARNIER PRODUCTS AND ESKINOL!

SKIN CARE PRODUCTS!

SKIN CARE PRODUCTS!

Hey everyone! I am back with another quick blog post for all of you and its my 2013 updated skin care routine. You know I have battled with acne problems ever since I started my diet. I actually had a lot of pimples when I started shifting to a new and better lifestyle, and that would be none other than fitness. I know its a bit odd for some to see that one gets acne when he or she switches to a new lifestyle, but this does happen. Why? Well, in my case, its because my food intake was totally different from what I used to eat when I started dieting down to how I look like now. I won’t really go into details with my fitness story because I plan to post a different blog post on that.

As for this blog, I really plan on making a review on the products listed below so that you’ll have an insight as to when I use them, how the consistency of these products feel on your skin and stuff like that. So let’s start? 🙂

Products:

  • Garnier Pure Active Multi-Action Scrub

1471389_10151853418484632_947339278_n

The Garnier Multi-Action Scrub, as claimed by the company aims to fight the 6 signs of acne as read in the product label and description at the back. It has that Anti-Imperfections Relapse formula that was tested on Acne-Prone Skin. This Anti-Imperfection Relapse technology targets white heads and pimples in a span of one week, as clinically tested on 50 subjects in 5 weeks. Perhaps, this is what makes this product worth your money. The current price of this product at Savemore is about Php 91 since it increased due to inflation, economically speaking.

I don’t know if you you can see it in the picture above, but this product has blue micro beads in it that I am guessing will be the Anti-Imperfection Relapse technology. When this product is applied on the skin, you can instantly feel the micro beads rubbing through your skin as the product is lathered. It lathers on instantly, even on a pea-sized amount. In my experience of using this product, I can instantly see changes in a span of one week because my pimples have slowly been disappearing. I can’t say its all because of this product alone, but when you use it on a daily basis, especially after a workout or a long day, its really helpful. Why so? Its because it cleanses your face deeply, thus removing all the dirt from the outside world. I know the way I have described it sounds kind of shallow, but that’s really my take on the product. So there, I guess you just have to try it yourself so you can have a feel of how it works. And if it doesn’t work for you, you could always use a different one or consult your dermatologist as to why your skin responds that way. I won’t claim that this product works for all the people who have acne prone skin because we all have different skin types, but if asked if I would recommend it, I guess its really up to you as to whether you’ll take the risk or not. You’ll never know until you try.

  • Eskinol Classic White Facial Deep Cleanser

1502567_10151853484164632_1777394702_n

As weird as this sounds, my boyfriend actually recommended me this product. However, he actually used it with Dalacin-C, an anti-biotic capsule consisting of Clindamycin which is made to treat serious internal bacterial infections. In my case, I didn’t anymore place the Dalacin-C Capsule inside because I don’t want to risk my face to anymore infections. Why? Its because some capsules are not to be placed directly on the skin even though they are for the same purpose. The consistency in some creams with the same drug would not be the same with mixing that particular drug on a different kind of chemical. This may generate a great effect on some skin types, but not all. The probability that this can damage another one’s skin is relatively high, so I don’t really suggest that you take the risk. Unless of course, you’re a risk seeker, so you’ll probably end up trying. However, if you’re a risk averse (people that want to be sure in their actions), I don’t think this is advisable at all. Some drugs are placed inside a capsule for a reason, and so you really have to talk to a pharmacist or a doctor before you put this on your skin. Well, that’s just my say on that, but if you have used this with Dalacin-C, then more power to you because it helped a lot with your acne condition.

The following are the benefits of the product, as claimed by the company:

  • Removes deep seated dirt, excess oil and makeup with Micro-Cleanse Anti-bacterial Formula
  • Whitens with continued use
  • Controls oil for hours (Removes excess oil, based on clinical test)

Moving on, the consistency of this product is like any other facial cleanser. It has that kind of cooling effect that soothes your skin. I personally use this product when after I wash my face because it helps remove the excess makeup I am wearing, and it soothes my skin after a long and hard day. However, I do wash my face again after letting it sit for 10 mins because I want to have a cleaner face before I apply the next product listed down below. I find that it helps clean my face some more, and prepares it for the last product I am using. The price of this facial cleanser is about Php 50 at Mercury Drugstore. Its relatively cheap for a facial cleanser, but it does perform well. Again, I don’t really suggest that after you read this blog, you go ahead and buy all the products listed down below because we again, all have different skin types and texture. That’s why its best to find a product that soothes your skin right. Nonetheless, if you want to take the risk, then go ahead. If it doesn’t work for you, you always have the option to try another product. Its really all up to you.

  • Garnier Light Complete Multi-Action Whitening Cream

Garnier Multi-Action Scrub

The last and final product I am using would be the Garnier Light Complete Multi-Action Whitening Cream which costs roughly around Php 28 at SM Hypermarket. I have to check back with you again about the price because I haven’t checked it again this time.

This product actually has a lot of benefits as claimed by the company, as  listed on its packaging, and it reads as such:

  • Extra UV Protection
  • Measurable Fairness
  • Fades Darks Spots
  • Smoothens Skin
  • Evens Skin Tone
  • Glowing Skin
  • SPF 17 (Anti-UVB)
  • PA++ ( Anti-UVA)
  • Three Potent Ingredients:
  1. Snowpine White Source – 10 X more efficient than Vitamin-C to help remove dullness and fade out dark spots.
  2. Micro-smoothing Agent – with gentle exfoliating action to smoothen skin texture. The formula helps minimize pores
  3. Pure Lemmon Essene – with ultimate anti-oxidant efficacy to boost healthy glow. With SPF 17/PA++ to protect your skin from UVA and UVB

With all that listed above, I was pretty much convinced by the power of this product because it really helped with my acne condition. I actually use this product before going to bed and before I put on my makeup. Why? I put this on before I sleep because I find that it helps fade away my acne scars over time. As for the makeup part, I find that it helps blend my foundation in easily and that it serves as my moisturizer and sunscreen. So for a pretty cheap prized product, I am pretty much sold by its benefits as listed above. Again, I don’t recommend that you do what I do in terms of skin care routine and the like, but what I do recommend is that if you have the courage to try it, then do so. I would always remind you that there is no harm in trying, but its always best to consult your dermatologist or see to it that your skin is capable enough of handling the chemical content of each product as listed above.

Well, that’s all for now. I hope you liked this blog post. I am sorry for making it super long. I really had a lot to say about the products. I’m sorry for that. Anyway, if these products did work for you, then more power to you. If not, then it’s alright. There is no harm done in trying. Besides, there are a million other products out there that would be good for your skin. So that’s it. Thank you  for reading and to God be all the glory. Advanced Happy and Merry Christmas to all of you! ❤

My DIY Hair Waxing Experience

Olaaaaaa!! I’m back with another blog and this time, its all about hair waxing. Well, I don’t know with you guys but I really am a fan of waxing. I sometimes go to the local waxing station near our place or do it all by myself at home. So before I give you a quick tutorial as to how I wax my legs, I’ll just list down a couple of benefits with waxing which I have gathered online. I will put a link down below as to where I got them.

  1. It lasts longer than shaving your legs. Why? This is because waxing pulls out the hair from the roots, allowing it to grow thinner (as some would claim; although this is something that I personally experience as well). Moreover, this also removes dead skin cells hence, giving out a flawless finish.
  2. Its a time saver because some waxing products allow your skin to remain flawless in a span of four weeks or so. Whereas, shaving mostly yields to rashes and uneven hair growth – hair looks longer and thicker in some areas.
  3. This is a method that is less prone to accidents when you do it correctly. Inevitably, if you do something wrong, you are mostly prone to mistakes that can yield to irritations, rashes and scarring. So as for waxing, the best way to avoid them is to apply it in a direction where your hair would grow and to follow the instructions written on your waxing kit.

So those are probably the top three benefits that I have gathered from these wonderful sources:

So as promised, I would now write a quick tutorial as to how I wax my own legs and what products I use to do it. If you follow me on Twitter, liked my page and also am a follower of mine on Instagram, you’d see that I have written a post with regard to waxing. As written there, the three products that I use would be:

  • No Hair Wax Kit with Mangosteen Extract Unwanted Hair Remover that costs about Php 300 at Watson’s
  • Glam Works Hair Removal Paper that costs roughly about Php 30 also at Watson’s
  • Glam Works Hair Removal Wax Kit that costs less than Php 100 (sorry, I forgot the price; I will just check it and edit this soon) at Watson’s

Just a quick review on these products would be that they are absolutely inexpensive and very effective to use. Based from my experience, they haven’t caused me any allergies and they have really good reviews online. Also, its very easy to use and its not necessarily harmful to your skin. So if you’re interested, its written above where you could get them and just try them. However, make sure that you consult your doctor to avoid irritation. I always have to stress that out because I personally have very sensitive skin that I would like to take care by all means.

HOW TO: WAX YOUR OWN LEGS OR ANY PART OF YOUR BODY

*Note: I am using the ‘No Hair Wax Kit with Mangosteen Extract Unwanted Hair Remover’ on the photo below*

1014124_10151523315594632_1538920906_n

  1. Before applying the wax, make sure that your skin is clean and free of any oil or dirt prior to waxing. I suggest that you even take a shower before you wax in order to prevent irritations.
  2. This step is optional if you are allergic to Powder or Baby Powder, but if you’re not, use this to mattify your skin. This will help the wax to become more adhesive thus, making it easier to pull.
  3. Following the natural flow of your hair, apply the wax over it using a Popsicle Stick. Mine came with the ‘Glam Works Hair Removal Kit’ but yeah, you can use any popsicle stick in this process.
  4. Place the hair removal sheet on top of the waxed area and flatten it out. Make sure that the wax sticks on to the paper as much as possible.
  5. Pull the hair removal paper opposite to how it was applied for this will pull out the hair, thus giving that flawless finish.
  6. Once you are done waxing, you can just easily go back to certain areas with a tweezer and tweeze out the unwanted hair that you have missed out during the whole of your waxing process.
  7. Another optional step which I actually encourage, but not to people who happen to be allergic to oil or any type of oil for that matter; is to apply oil over the waxed area to remove the excess wax and to moisturize the area to prevent irritation and ‘chicken skin’.

TIPS FOR FIRST TIMERS OR WHAT NOT:

  • Always make sure to pick a product that is suitable to your skin type.
  • If you have sensitive skin, I suggest that you consult your doctor prior to waxing in order to prevent irritation.
  • In applying the wax, make sure to only get a pea-sized amount on the popsicle stick. This is so that you would know as to when you should add more wax or not.
  • Do not immediately wash your legs after you wax. WHY? This is because our pores are wide open when we wax, hence, we have to return back moisture and allow the pores to naturally close. Also, the main cause of ‘chicken skin’ is washing after a waxing session. However, if you really have to shower, then I suggest that you shower with luke warm water instead.
  • Do not pull our the hair removal paper hard or slow, and just do it in a right pace. This is so that accidents, scarring, rashes and other forms of irritation can be avoided.

So there you have it guys! I hope you enjoyed this blog and this quick tutorial as to how you could wax your own legs at home. I suggest that you read the instructions written on the waxing kit prior to doing it yourself or to read blogs online to know whether or not you should purchase a product. This is to help widen your knowledge on beauty products and to prevent all sorts of irritation to your skin from happening. One good place I would suggest that you go is none other than Watson’s for they really have all the beauty needs for our body to look its best. Thank you and good luck on your waxing experience! TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY!!! 🙂

My Take on Hair Extensions (Human Hair vs. Synthetic Hair)

Hey everyone! I know I haven’t been blogging in forever simply because I have too much going on with my life these days. SORRY FOR THAT!!! So now that I am back, I can show you what I have been up to lately. As for this blogpost, I will be talking hair extensions because I just got my first real human hair extensions. If you have been following me on Twitter and you’re a contact of mine on Facebook; I have been rambling about this for ages. I’ve been wanting to get long hair for the longest time but since I had so much hair color treatment and what not, I just can’t grow it to become healthy and strong.

To be very honest, I had to cut the ends from time to time because my split ends were growing faster than my hair and that sucks. I even went to the extent of getting a Brazilian Blowdry Treatment from a local salon near my school simply to just heal my hair. Nonetheless, I admit that I am at fault for this. I’m guessing that if you guys have read my previous blogs; I wrote about my DIY Hair Dye Remover Experience which I do not regret doing since it is the one basically responsible for my hair color as of the moment. Just to explain what happened, I kind of stripped down the color some more to make my hair light again after getting highlights for Christmas. Yup, I know you’re probably thinking to yourself, “what the hell does she want to do with her hair?” Hm, let’s just say that I am one person who likes changing up my look from time to time and that is through my hair. I consider it as one of my assets, that’s why.

Just so you could understand what was going on, I will be posting a few pictures below. In the photos, you’ll see how damaged my hair became after all that coloring and what not.

My hair with highlights. I got this after Christmas Season when I went on a vacation far far away. :)

My hair with highlights. I got this after Christmas Season when I went on a vacation far far away. 🙂

This was my hair after I did about 3-4 DIY Hair Dye Remover Solution. As you can see, its really damaged and frizzy. So again, if you are attempting to do this DIY Hair Remover Solution, you must treat your hair from time to time. My hair became this damaged because of the highlights I got last Christmas. To be honest, I regret getting highlights because it honestly slipped my mind that the hair with highlights on was going to get lightened as well. I know, that was extremely stupid on my part but I will again, just charge it on to experience.

This was how my hair looked like when I tried Cesh Pilar's Synthetic Hair Extensions. As you can see, its not really a match to my own hair. Basically, this was because of the highlights and the DIY Hair Dye Remover Solution that I did.

Moving on, I got my first hair extensions from a girl I met at Sulit.com.ph. Her name is Cesh Pilar. I met up with her a few months back at SM Manila to get my Wavy Blonde Clip-on Synthetic Hair Extensions for only Php 280. It was a pretty cheap deal and up to now, I still do not regret getting it. However, my problem was since I started out with a black hair color and based from my explanation above, it wasn’t really an exact match to my hair. Hence, I had to again, color my hair just so that I could match the extensions. I think you’d know what the aftermath led to, and that is none other than damaged hair. EXTREMELY DAMAGED RUBBERY HAIR THAT LED ME TO HAVE A BRAZILIAN BLOWDRY TREATMENT. I blame myself for that because I have already started out with blonde hair to begin with but whatever, I’ll just charge it to experience anyway.

My hair after I got the Brazilian Blowdry Treatment. As you can see, it became straight and healthy. However, this didn't last very long. I guess after a month, my hair was starting to get frizzy and that is when my hair coloring agendas came into the picture once again.

Since I wasn’t happy with that, I didn’t wear the extensions for quite sometime. Mainly because they were wavy and my hair was straight. So it wasn’t until the Brazilian Blowdry Treatment wore off, and with basically 3 layers of hair color to somewhat get the desired color that I wanted as of the moment, that I have gotten a chance to wear them again. (YAY) The photo below was how I looked liked wearing them.

My hair with the clip-on extensions. I was able to somewhat kind of match it with my hair color. However, my hair was still too dark so its really not a complete match. *sighs*

As you can see in the photo above, it is still not quite a match with my real hair. Hence, I kinda just gave up on it. So as time passed by, I was treating my hair with a few products that I will be posting down below just to get it back into shape; which it did happen actually. I mean, I was honesty shocked by how effective these inexpensive products are when used everyday. You’ll definitely like them if you’re a hair fanatic like me who has severely damaged hair. To be very specific, I was even able to had my hair colored at a salon (courtesy of my brother because he hated what my hair looks like) without it dying. So its a pretty good deal actually.

So these have been the products that I'm using to treat and maintain my hair. :)

So these have been the products that I’m using to treat and maintain my hair. 🙂

Products that I use to treat my hair:

  • Glam Hair Luxe Intensive Care Hair Treatment
  • Fabulouz Gems Keratin Hot Oil
  • Ashley Shine Keratin Hair Reconstruction Cream with Mangosteen Extract

I will write a different blogpost on that as soon as I replenish my stocks and use it for a longer period of time. So going back, after I had my hair done, I decided that it was time for me to get permanent Human Hair Extensions and take care of my hair with it once and for all. Yeah, I know that I have probably taken a while to get this idea to sink into my head. HAHAHAHA. Oh well, as I have said earlier, I will just have to charge it to experience. So basically, I went online again to Sulit.com.ph to find hair extensions. I met a girl named, Nikka Yamanouchi who offered me a pretty good deal on Human Hair Extensions which was Php 40 per strand of 28 inches, and so I went for it. My good friend, Zharmaine Arjinal whom I have mentioned in most of my blogs, accompanied me there. We took a jeep going there since my car was coding and got soaking wet in the rain. We also got flooded too because of the awful drainage system in Manila. Anyways, so once we got there, Nikka placed on my hair extensions. I was pretty happy with it because it was a complete match to my hair color which I wasn’t really expecting. Plus, the hair she gave me was in pretty good shape. I guess, if you were in my shoes, you’d be as happy as I was.

Since the hair was long, I had to get it trimmed. It felt weird though, asking someone to cut your extensions. HAHAHA. Okay, that was so random. After a few days of wearing it, I felt as if the extensions were not as adhesive enough on my hair. Consequently, I had to seek the help of another person that I found also at Sulit.com.ph. Man, is this site awesome or what? You can find loads of pretty good deals in there. Yeah, okay so what I did was to contact Syra Davies who happens to offer hair extensions at a lower price which is Php 25 for 20 inches hair and Php 30 for 28 inches of hair. They actually offer out a promo which is Php 5000 for 100 strands for braided hair extensions with two micro-rings attached. So I went to her place in Pasig and got my hair done. True enough, the extensions that Nikka placed were already coming off. So what Syra did was to braid my hair and attach the extensions and secure them with micro-rings. After a few days of wearing them, I can say that I am really impressed because now, I can wash my hair and even apply treatment without worrying that it will come off or what. To be very specific, we should not actually leave the treatment on to our scalp since it can be a cause of dandruff, so I prefer placing it on the ends of my hair and only applying a few on my scalp.

This is how the hair from Nikka Yamanouchi's Hair Extensions looked like when curled. :) As you can see, we can really style the hair in whatever way we want it to look like.

In summary, I will list down a few pros and cons I had with hair extensions per se so you guys could understand my plight.

So when it comes to Clip-on Hair Extensions that are synthetic, the few pros would be:

  • It is easy to remove when you don’t want to wear them anymore
  • You can wash them like normal hair
  • You don’t need to worry about its style and texture since it doesn’t change no matter what you do to it

As for the cons I had with it:

  • It is hard to match it with your real hair color
  • You cannot color nor style it in accordance to what you want it to look like (Believe me, I have tried)
  • It kind of comes off from time to time so you have to really secure it so it will be like your real hair.

I know that some of you will argue that there are also Human Hair extensions that are clip-ons as well. However, I find that if I just get them attached to my hair, it would be easier to style it. This is because some extensions come in like pieces of hair and some are like one big piece. Plus, it is really heavy and painful to wear at times. Well, that is just my verdict on that. It really depends on what you prefer.

As for the pros and cons of Permanent (until the hair grows out, of course) Human Hair Extensions, the pros would be:

  • You can easily color and match it to your real hair
  • It is easier to style since you won’t have to detach it or what not anymore
  • It is really like real hair when worn

The few cons would include:

  • You have to really be careful in styling it because once you pull it, the extensions or maybe even your real hair will come off as well
  • You have to make sure that you don’t apply that much conditioning treatment on the upper layers because it can loosen the micro-rings attached to it (although this is something that should also be done with real hair as well)
  • It is kind of hard to hide it when you style it so you have to really be careful and of course, get an experienced person to teach you how to style and take care of it
  • Also, if your hair is curly or wavy, you really have to get a human hair that actually matches the texture of your hair

So those are my opinions on hair extensions per se. I hope you enjoyed reading my blog. If you have any questions, feel free to comment down below. I will address you as soon as possible from this time on. Thank you so so very much and I’ll see you hopefully on YouTube if I decide making videos again or just here on my blog. Take care and to God be the glory. 🙂

And this has mostly been the hairstyle I do after I had my extensions redone by Syra Davies. She also taught me how to curl and style it this way so I'm really happy with it. Thank you very much! :)

For those who are interested to buy or get hair extensions as well; here in the Philippines, these are the contact numbers of the people whom I got these from:

P.S.:

I made a bargain with regard to the prices of my extensions from these people and in return, I wanted to advertise them. I just wrote this, just so you know. Thank you so so much!!

BOHEMIAN INSPIRED SHOOT

QUEZON CITY MEMORIAL CIRCLE

OLAAAAAAAA! Its me again. I told you, I’ll try and update this blog from time to time. (LOL) Anyway, yesterday (December 09, 2012), I did a Bohemian Inspired Shoot  at the QC Memorial Circle with my good friend, Ms. Charis Antalan. She booked a fun shoot for me and her to do on a Sunday. We also kinda made it our chitchat day together since we haven’t really hanged out in such a long time. So this shoot was kinda like our very own bonding moment together. You know girls, they like to have their bonding sessions all pimped up by dressing up and such.

Ms. Mae Oropesa (Left), Mr. James Fadrillan (Red Shirt), and Mr. Ken Caliwanagan (Blue Shirt)

Mr. Mike Maravillo and Ms. Mae Oropesa

So basically, what happened was that she came over to my place to do makeup since I live a few blocks away from the location of the shoot. I won’t go over with what happened because its basically just the normal mantra that takes place here. Instead, I’ll just explain what I did to her face. The products I’ve used would be the “How To Look The Best At Everything – Flawless Complexion Makeup Kit” in the shade, Light. Since the product was a few shades lighter than her skin tone, I decided to mix it with my Loreal True Match Foundation in C7 to get an overall even color. The reason why the Benefit foundation kit was a few shades lighter was because it was of my personal use, but since I love Charis; I decided to try it on her. It works like magic, though because I didn’t have to retouch her face from time to time after using the “Pore Fessional – Pore Minimizer” tube that came with it. That product works like magic because it gives off such a flawless finish on the face. I really do recommend trying this one out. 🙂

HAIR AND MAKEUP

A closer look on the hair and makeup 🙂

As for the eyes, I just went through to doing a sultry smokey eyes look. It was merely a mixture of brown shadows. I won’t go into detail on how its done in this blog, but I promise to try and make a step-by-step guide on how I did this. Going back, the main thing that’s noticeable in all Bohemian Makeup Look photographs was the eyeliner. So I went on to lining her eyes and setting it with black eye shadow. The darker the eyeliner on the waterline, the more bohemian looking it is. Just make sure you don’t go overboard with it. Just the right amount of eyeliner to bring out the Bohemian effect would do. 🙂 For the rest of the face, what I did was to contour her nose, cheeks, and jawline. This was to further enhance her facial features. I also added bronzer and an orange toned blush to match the look. I didn’t went on to lining the lips nor adding any lipstick for that matter. I just used my nude lipgloss over the tinted lipbalm from Etude House for this. In summary, the main goal of the look is to make the eyes stand out in subtle manner. Some Makeup Artists like their models to have really dramatic eyes for this look, but I decided to just make it as balanced looking and wearable in any way possible. As for the hair, I decided to just do a simple half ponytail braid. Its really hard for me to explain how I did it, but I just merely twisted the sides of her hair and braid it downwards.

Ms. Charis Antalan

Well, that’s it for the hair and makeup story portion of this shoot. I can say that what happens in every shoot is just the normal thing. You know, the one wherein models would pose to match the look and the photographer shoots it. However, the fun part of this shoot was wherein I got to style Charis’ look. I don’t know how to explain this part since I am not at all a stylist, but I guess the photographs below will speak for themselves. I’m sorry about that. I just don’t wanna throw some fashion tips just like that without the proper background to backup what I’m saying. Nonetheless, if I get better at it, I think I’ll try and blog about fashion ideas too. What do you think? Everything is worth a shot. 🙂

The photographers that I have worked with in the shoot were:

Me and Charis 🙂

To sum up this blog, I would thank these photographers for doing such a great job in photographing my beautiful friend, Ms. Charis Antalan. I also would like to thank Ms. Mae Oropesa for treating us out to dinner at Max’s Restaurant. It was indeed a pleasure working with all of you. I hope that I get to work with all of you again soon. More so, I would like to thank Charis for everything. She really does know how to make me smile. So thank you all for such a fun shoot! 🙂 Oh, and thank you too for reading this very long blog. If you need people to do makeup, modelling and photography, feel free to leave a comment down below. Thank you again and God bless! 🙂

Oh, and as you can see, my hair is two-toned because I have just recently indulged myself into removing my dark hair dye using Vitamin C. You can check out my detailed blog post about that by clicking the link below. Thank you! Ciao! 🙂

MY DIY Hair Dye Remover Experience

Ola! I haven’t really been updating my blog for quite some time now. I guess my only excuse for such is my broken heart, or maybe not. I just really don’t know what to write. Sorry about that. I’ll be sure to update my blog every now and then so we can all share different beauty tips and such. 🙂

Basically, this blog post is about the wonders that the DIY (Do It Yourself) Hair Dye Remover did to my almost jet black hair that I claimed to be dark brown. Just a disclaimer though; the top portion of my hair is lighter than the rest because of the numerous hair coloring techniques that I did to somewhat try and get the blackness out of my hair. If you follow me on twitter, you’ll see that I keep on tweeting about how I try to make my hair look brown again, but then again, it doesn’t work for my hair. That’s why I resulted to doing this DIY thing.

So here is how the story goes: the first thing I did a month after dying my Golden Blonde hair to “Dark Brown” was to get it colored again. So I went to see my hairdresser and ask if he could color it. He said he could but the roots would be light. At first, I didn’t believe him even though he was a professional because I was so damn desperate to get the black hair out. To my dismay, he was right. Only the roots were the ones that got light. The only suggestion he could give was to bleach my hair so that he can color everything out evenly. Inevitably, I’d say no because I’m too afraid to bleach my hair again. It already caused so much damaged that’s why I colored it dark brown that went on to being this disgusting jet black colored hair.

Image

My hair only looks brown because of the Instagram setting but if you look closely, the roots are so much lighter than the rest of my hair.

Again, if you look more closely, you can see that the roots are so much lighter than the rest of hair.

And since I am naturally hard headed when it comes to these things, I decided to experiment on my hair. And so I bought two boxes of Kolours Permanent Hair Color in Caramel Brown and used it on my hair a week after coloring it. The reason why I bought two was because I was hoping that when I dye it two times in a row, it will magically remove the blackness of my hair. Yes, I was this desperate to get it out. However, in the end, it still didn’t do anything but furthermore lighten the roots of my hair. Though it somewhat lifted the jet black like color and made it to black. I guess it wasn’t that black anymore, but its still dark that’s why I gave up on it after attempts on making it lighter. I also had to rest my hair in the process because it was starting to be brittle in texture because of the chemicals.

Image

Unfortunately, its starting to get to me and so I searched the internet on ways of making it lighter. I came across several bloggers saying that blonde hair color can somewhat lift the blackness. So I went ahead and bought Etude House’s Golden Blonde Hair Color. I even took a train the first time to SM Megamall to get this because the one in North Avenue was out of stock. Yeah, I know, that’s how desperate I am to get rid of it. I also bought the Hortaleza Medium Blonde hair color to somewhat correct the color in case it comes off too light. So what happened to my hair when I tried the Etude House Golden Blonde? Well, the black did turn into reddish brown, however my roots were like orange already since the color was about two shades lighter than black before I colored it. I already assumed that this would happen so I bought the Hortaleza Medium Blonde. To my effin dismay once again, the reddish brown didn’t turn into brown or any shade lighter than that. The Medium Blonde mixed with the 12% Oxidizing Lotion just made it worse. Also, the roots were still lighter than usual.

:(

As you can see, my roots are really light and the rest of the hair is brownish black when it hits natural lighting.

I was really disappointed with the results because no matter what I do, the color is still dark. That’s why I decided to buy a box of Hortaleza Permanent Hair Color in Light brown to somewhat correct the mistake since the lady in the store recommended it to me. I think you can guess what happened this time? It again didn’t help because the roots were really light. So when you see my hair, its two-toned. The roots are 2-3 shades lighter than the rest of my hair. Plus, my hair was still black.

With all that said, I searched the web for ways to lighten my hair without using any hair color ingredient because it did nothing but worsen the texture and color of my hair. So while I was scrolling down, I came across a video of this girl from Youtube whose username is CoachByNicole. In the video, she demonstrated how Vitamin C together with Shampoo and Virgin Coconut oil lightens hair. At first, I doubted if this was entirely true so I spent about 2 hours searching the world wide web with facts pertaining to this.

According to Brenna Davis, an Ehow Contributor, “Vitamin C can be used directly on the hair to improve hair health. Add a teaspoon of Vitamin C powder (available at health food stores) to hair dye before placing it on your hair. The Vitamin C will act as a buffer and prevent the color from heavily damaging your hair. Similarly, Vitamin C can be used to help remove hair color.”

As for coconut oil, I have read from http://www.gnet.org that it overall helps to lessen the damage done on your hair. Some sites and forums claim that it lightens hair overtime, but I haven’t really gotten any decent proof to that. However, what I can say about it is that it really does wonders to the hair in the most effective and inexpensive manner. So if you’re trying to treat your damaged hair, I would definitely recommend using coconut oil. Its inexpensive and very very effective. Just make sure you wash your hair thoroughly after applying because based from experience, it really does leave on a greasy texture and weird smell when its not properly washed off.

Going back to what this blog is about, this is basically what I did to my hair. 🙂

Things you’ll need:

Image

  • Hair Color Applicator
  • Hair Color Container
  • Plastic Gloves
  • Shower Cap
  • Big Hair Clip

Ingredients:

Image

  • 40 tablets of Vitamin C crushed into dust
  • 3 pumps of Shampoo
  • 2 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Coconut oil

Instructions:

Image

  1. Pour the Vitamin C into any bowl, together with the shampoo and coconut oil.
  2.  Mix the product into a paste and make sure there are no lumps.
  3.  Apply the product evenly on damp hair. Not entirely wet or dry, just the right dampness of hair would do. (You can opt to shampoo your hair first and towel dry it in the process)
  4. Clip the hair into place and cover it with a shower cap.
  5. Leave the product on from 30 mins to 2 hours depending on how dark your hair is.
  6. Shampoo out the mask and condition your hair accordingly.
  7. Blowdry or just style your hair in any way you want.
TADAAAAA!

THANK YOU, VITAMIN C! Who knew that you were the only solution?

Honestly, after trying this method, I feel really really stupid that I wasted so much money trying to get rid of it using hair coloring products. I should have just done this in the first place. 😦 Oh well, at least my hair is less damaged and it was lightened naturally. As you can see in the picture above, my roots are still lighter but the overall color of my hair is medium brown. I will keep on repeating this process until my hair is light and healthy enough to match my roots. Its quite alright to have the roots at a lighter tone this time because according to my hairdresser, its easier to be colored to match with the rest of the hair since its already my natural hair that was covered by the chemicals. What’s important is I wash out the “dark brown” or shall I say, “black” hair dye on my hair. 🙂

So for all the people who have tried this and had amazing results, feel free to comment down below. I’d be happy to hear what results other people will have once they try this DIY Hair Dye Remover. Thank you for reading and best of luck to you and your hair! 🙂

Just another disclaimer before ending this blog: THIS WILL ONLY WORK FOR CHEMICALLY COLOR TREATED HAIR. IT WON’T WORK ON NATURAL HAIR. 🙂
